The UBC Okanagan community is saddened by the passing of Dr. Gregory Younging on May 3, 2019.
Flags were lowered on Monday, May 6, 2019, in his memory.
Dr. Younging joined the Department of Community, Culture, and Global Studies in 2007, and was key to the development of the Indigenous Studies program.
In 2010, he accepted a part-time secondment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada to serve as Assistant Director Research, and held the role until 2012. In this role, he took the lead planning, commissioning, and managing the editing of consultant research projects, and was a member of the writing team for three national reports: They Came For The Children: Historical Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada; The Interim Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada; and The Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
Dr. Younging’s contributions to the Department, Faculty, University, and our country will be missed. Condolences to his family, friends, and community.
Service on Tuesday, May 7
A funeral will be held at St. Saviour’s Church (150 Orchard Ave, Penticton V2A 1X8) on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 11 a.m., followed by a feast and ceremony at the En’owkin Centre (154 Enowkin Trail, Penticton V2A 0E1) at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
